Yesterday we took a look at Serena Mitnik-Miller’s low-key kitchen in Topanga Canyon; today we’re admiring her bedroom and bath situation. Here’s a look.

Photography by Nicki Sebastian, courtesy of Rip & Tan.

Above: The master bedroom—cream walls, cream bedding, ceramic lighting in cream—has an easy undone look. Adding to the texture: a nightstand with leather sling shelf, shiplap walls (see Expert Advice: The Enduring Appeal of Shiplap), and relaxed linens.

Above: The chic yet unkempt bed. For a guide to lived-in linens, see Linen Logic: 20 Tips for Taking Care of Your Bedding; for a similar look, see 7 Tips for Creating a Low-Key Romantic Bedroom.

Above: When the couple found the house, the bathroom was “tiny, with plastic sea foam tile and a linoleum vanity,” Mitnik-Miller says. In the finished master bath, a plywood console (custom-built by a friend and Mitnik-Miller’s dad) has cutout cabinet pulls, stacked shelving, and baskets for stashing extra linens. (For more, see Remodeling 101: Cutout Cabinet Pulls.) Mitnik-Miller found the pink marble at a re-use yard, and the sconces are by brass artisan Ramsey Conder.

Above: The bath has a vintage tub given to the couple by a friend (artist’s scribbles included). An oval shower curtain rod means the canvas curtains can wrap all the way around, and a wooden tray keeps essentials at the ready. (Love the wall of tiles? Mitnik-Miller’s are Moroccan, but we also love these Portuguese Tiles from Centuries Past.)

Not pictured: an exposed-pipe copper shower head; see Trend Alert: 10 DIY Faucets Made from Plumbing Parts.
