Today I want to share a Christmas tour of my historic home. Here’s a classic Christmas home tour with vintage finds and tons of color.

In honor of November and twinkling lights and rooms that make me so happy and full of joy…
…I had to share.
This year’s Christmas home tour is here.
There’s a little vintage.
And a little Christmas color. And a whole lot of tiny villages and trees everywhere and lots of color and fun ideas that I thought might inspire you.
Here’s the thing before we begin, I wanted to mention a few things about this tour.
1. There are a LOT of pictures. I tried to cut a few pictures out, but I wanted you to see the entire space from different angles. You might need a beverage before you begin.
2. I’m only sharing the front two rooms today and the office because I was at 35 photos and I thought that might be enough Christmas for all of us today (#calmdownkarianne).
3. I also wanted to share 17 creative Christmas decorating ideas that I may or may not have made up along the way.
4. If you like color, this is the tour for you.
Are you ready?
And now?
LET’S GO.

21 Creative Christmas Decorating Ideas
from my classic Christmas home tour

1. ball pick garland
Make a garland for the mantel out of white glitter ball picks.
It started with just one—but once I started, I couldn’t stop.
I just layered them in and then hung blue and white ornaments.
It’s a little unconventional—but it is SO MUCH FUN. If you are trying to hang garland on your mantel? Here’s my best garland hanging tip. And this is the cord bundler that I use to hang the garland.

2. Don’t forget about the pillows
I think one of the easiest things to do is to add a pillow (or a stack of pillows like the one from the living room).
I got this pillow a zillion years ago, but I found one that’s similar here.
If you need a little accent pillow—I put together a few needlepoint pillows I have on my list.
You can see them here.

3. Fill a bowl with ornaments
Fill a bowl with leftover ornaments and blue and white orbs.
This bowl is sold out now—but I found a similar one here.
And these are actually ornaments. I just put them here until I could hang them on the tree.
You can see the blue and white ornaments here.

4. Add poinsettias under the tree
I know these poinsettias under the tree are a little controversial.
Several of you suggested white instead.
But I love the contrast in the room with faux red poinsettias like these (especially since I rearranged the room for Christmas).

5. Tuck poinsettias into a vase
I used to decorate with real poinsettias, but they faded so quickly.
Now, I order faux poinsettias like this in stems and add them tree, or make a garland or add them to a vase.
You can see similar red poinsettias here.

6. Decorate with ornaments
This is the easier, most inexpensive way to decorate for the holidays.
I add them all over the room—on side tables and in the built-ins. They just add a pop of color.
One of my favorite ways to decorate with them is to add them to a sleigh like this vintage sleigh.

7. Tie bows on a tree
I’ve seen bows everywhere. I just bought blue ribbon from Walmart and tied it onto the tree.
The key with the bows is to make the ends hang down.
You also want to use contrasting ribbon so you can see it on the tree.

8. Decorate with nutcrackers
I got these oversized nutcrackers last year and I love them. They are such an easy way to add a bold statement to a mantel.
I also have nutcrackers lining the front steps going up the porch.
(total aside: I LOVE these faux candles on the mantel so much. Every time I have a party people always ask me if they are real. The candles come in a set of six and I just add them to the candle holders. You can see the candles here. )

9. Don’t overlook the doorknobs
Here I hung a Santa tassel on a ribbon on the vintage door knob.
I’ve also hung bells with ribbon from the door knob too.
It’s a fun way to add a little Christmas where you least expect it.

10. Create a table centerpiece from mini houses
Here I added a few mini houses and ornaments to the center of the table.
I used cake stands to add height to the houses.
And then I just scattered a few ornaments.
That’s it. So easy and festive.

11. Make a wreath from ornaments
I’ve shared this wreath before, but every year I pull it out and it makes me so happy.
You could buy an ornament wreath or you could DIY one yourself.
This wreath is about four years old and still looks like new.

12. Make a house from paper that looks like your house
My sister made this house for me last year.
She made it from paper and created it to look just like my house and it makes the perfect addition to all my villages.
What a fun DIY or fun gift idea this year for someone special.

13. Add a collection of trees
I add a couple of trees to my collection every year.
You could make your own trees like these with felt and a styrofoam cone.
It’s a fun collection to decorate with on a table or sideboard or bookcase or side table.

14. Add a little vintage
I see you Santa.
I think he’s been pulling this sleigh for over 50 years.
Maybe the reindeer are a little tired.
I’m always looking for vintage pieces like this to add a little history to my Christmas decorating.

15. Add a bow tree topper
It’s so affordable and an easy way to add color to the top of the tree.
You can see all my favorite tree toppers here.
Cut pieces of 10″ ribbon and tuck them into the tree. You can also tie them in a knot and or tie them around the branch. It so much easier to add ribbon this way instead of winding the ribbon throughout the entire tree.

16. Add oversize ornaments to the tree
I got these snowflakes at the dollar store.
A large ornament like this takes up so much space and make a big impact.
And of course I love the bow tree topper. It’s so affordable and it matches the red bow topper in the dining room.

17. Add a nativity
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a nativity.
I have them all over the house.
There’s something so special and wonderful about the manger scene.

Happy almost December.
I hope that you enjoyed the tour.
It was so much fun to put together.
Just between us? This is only three rooms (I know—right? LOOOL).
I have so much more to show you over the next couple of weeks, including this map/travel tree I’m in the middle of creating.
I’ll be sharing all that soon.
Let me know if you have any questions about anything or let me know if I can help with sourcing with anything from any of these rooms on the tour.
Christmas friends have to stick together.
