DECORATING Classic Blue and White Room Design

Spacious bedroom with a white bed, blue and white pillows, and a white comforter. Wooden floor, white walls, and a white nightstand with a lamp and plant. Large window with white curtains. White door on the right. Minimalist and bright decor.

Remember this room?

If you missed the post let me Reader’s Digest it quickly.

I shared this room with a rug that I ordered that I thought didn’t work in the space. Then I found four other rugs and photo-edited them in the space, and then I asked for your help.

My favorite people in the entire world.

I asked for your help and just like you always do YOU SHOWED UP.

You represented.

You gave thoughtful, careful, detailed, and honest opinions.

(total aside: a couple of you apologized for the honest opinions and I LOVED THEM. Truly. I’m not asking just to ask. I need help and you are the best friends to give me opinions that are heartfelt and honest. I love those kind of opinions.)

And now?

The votes are in.

Almost 350 of them.

The rug has been ordered and it sitting in the room right now.

Drumroll, please.

Four images of the same bedroom with different rugs under the bed. Rug A: light blue floral pattern. Rug B: vibrant pink and blue pattern. Rug C: blue and white floral pattern. Rug D: dark blue with intricate white designs. Each rug labeled A to D.

// Rug A: blue and white rug (which is sold out now)// Rub B: pink rug // Rug C: blue and white rug //Rug D:  blue and white rug //

But wait.

Before I tell you the winner.

Let’s take a look back at the rugs in the space.

(total aside: I kind of mixed up a few of you because the rugs were out of order from how I shared them in the post and I truly apologize about that).

Here are the rugs again if you want to see them up close:

  • Rug A: blue and white rug (which is sold out now)
  • Rub B: pink rug
  • Rug C: blue and white rug
  • Rug D:  blue and white rug

Here’s how the votes stacked up (please note that several people voted twice so there are more than 350 votes). I read every single vote faithfully and I want to tell you how MUCH I APPRECIATE YOU the detail of the responses.

  • Rug A:  93 votes
  • Rub B: 24 votes
  • Rug C: 157 votes
  • Rug D: 88 votes

C IS THE WINNER.

A bright bedroom with a white bed, adorned with patterned blue and white pillows and a matching duvet. Two white nightstands with lamps flank the bed. The wooden floor hosts a large, decorative rug with blue floral patterns. A window is in view.

And in hilarious news?

36 of you voted for the original rug.

(total aside: I completely understand why and yes—I called them bees, but they are actually butterflies—but if you saw it in the room? You would totally be nodding with me that it wasn’t quite right for this room.)

That was a LOT OF VOTES.

A Facebook comment thread shows a user named Whitney Wood commenting, "Do I have a say?" with a winking emoji. Below, Whitney Wood comments again, "I vote C!" The comments were posted 5 days ago. There are two likes.

But as I was scrolling through all the votes I noticed one vote in particular.

One person that I truly should have consulted.

One person I should have asked their opinion at the very first.

One person who actually lives in the room.

The sweetest cutest daughter on this planet.

Whitney Wood.

Sigh.

Hangs head in shame.

There are days as a mother that I wish I could ask for a do-over.

So rug C was the winner with all of you and Whitney (the most important decider in this equation).

Ornate rectangular rug with an intricate blue floral and geometric pattern on a white background. The design features a central medallion surrounded by a symmetrical arrangement of floral motifs, bordered by decorative patterns.

So this blue and white rug is currently sitting in Whitney’s room waiting for a makeover (that I’ll share Monday).

And I was so inspired by you and all of the rug opinions that I decided to next-level it and add a few more things to the room, too.

First of all I’m turning the rug horizontal in the space (thanks for the suggestions).

A bed with a blue and white gingham checkered duvet cover and pillows. The floor is light gray, and a small round side table with wooden legs is visible in the background.

// blue and white checked gingham duvet cover //

I’m keeping the white comforter and adding this blue and white gingham duvet cover to the end of the bed.

And adding the fluffiest duvet and these hotel pillows that are on sale right now that we all love so much to the bed so it’s extra cozy.

You can see the blue and white checked duvet cover here.

A stack of floral-patterned bedsheets featuring pink and red flowers with green leaves and light blue accents on a white background.

// floral sheet set //

Then? To add a pop of cover, I’m making a small duvet cover to layer on the bed out of this floral sheet set.

I took your advice that we need a pop of color in the room and I think this will look SO CUTE.

I might make pillows, too, or that might be too much. I have to decide.

Stay tuned.

You can see the floral sheet set here.

Close-up of a window curtain hanging from a black rod with a dark wooden finial. The curtain features vertical stripes in blue, white, and light gray. The wall is paneled with off-white horizontal planks.

// navy striped curtains //

And I ordered new curtains for the room, too.

I couldn’t help myself.

The room looked so plain and these curtains were sold at such an amazing price point. I ordered them in the 108″ length so they will be floor to ceiling.

You can see the navy and white striped curtains here.

Two decorative pillows with a white background and a pink dot pattern, resembling an abstract or animal print design. The pillows are square-shaped and appear soft, positioned slightly overlapping each other.

// pink and white pillow covers //

I also ordered this set of 20″ x 20″ pillow covers to bring in a little pink.

I like to stuff them with slightly oversized down pillows so they are super cozy.

You can see the pink pillow covers here.

A white pillow with small, evenly spaced blue tulip designs and navy blue edging. The pattern creates a simple and elegant look.

Remember these pillows from the dining room?

They look so cute with the rug, too.

You can see the blue and white embroidered tulip pillows here.

A woman stands in a bright, stylish living room holding two decorative pillows, with large windows, elegant curtains, and modern furniture around her.

Thank you SO MUCH for all your help.

Thanks so you I think we found a rug that works in the room.

But more importantly?

A rug that’s perfect for WHITNEY.
