Looking for design plan ideas? Here are some creative suggestions for big design challenges with your spaces.

I had the best idea.
I’m really not sure how it popped into my head, but as soon as it did, the idea just started spinning and turning and taking on an idea life of it’s own.
And I couldn’t wait to share with you.
So here goes.
Raise your hand if you’ve ever had a design challenge.
You know.
Something in your house that’s too big or too expensive or too sentimental to get rid of.
Like a giant leather sofa.
Or oak cabinets in your kitchen.
Or your grandmother’s hutch in your dining room.
You want to change up your room, but it’s like you are stuck. That design challenge is a design speed bump. That design challenge is getting in the way of creating the room that you love.
But what if you had a friend? A friend who writes a blog and designs rooms and loves design speed bumps and coming up with creative solutions.
Good thing you do have a friend.
You’ve got a friend in me.
And I can help you for free.

So here’s how it works.
Fingers crossed that my idea works as well as it’s planned out in my head.
Here’s the process:
- Leave a comment at the end of the post with your design challenge
- Kind of describe it enough so that I can understand the challenge
- You can also send me a photo if you think it will help explain it better to karianne@thistlewoodfarms.com
- I’ll put together a quick design plan to give you some inspiration and post a couple here on the blog every week to (hopefully) give a little inspiration to someone else who might have the same challenge.
- If you don’t want to leave it in the comments, you can always just email me at karianne@thistlewoodfarms.com
Does that make sense?
Depending on how many people post, it may take me a little bit to get through everyone’s challenge.
But I promise I’ll get through all of them.
Here are a couple of examples so you can see what I’m talking about.

Here’s an example.
One of the biggest challenges I get asked about.
A couch that can’t be replaced.
So for this example, I chose an oversized leather couch.
Here’s a paint palette with SW Naval and SW Raime and SW Icicle.
I chose brass accents and wood coffee table and a rug to tie all the colors together.
You can see all the sources for the room here.

Here’s another example.
What about oak cabinets?
You don’t want to paint and you need to make the oak cabinets work.
Here are some paint colors that go well with oak cabinets.
And then?
I added a pop of red.
Maybe a rug in an adjoining room and bar stools and red gingham with red accents.
You can see all the sources for this design plan here.

So what do you think?
Doesn’t it sound like fun?
If you have a design challenge, here’s the process one more time:
- Leave a comment at the end of the post with your design challenge
- Kind of describe it enough so that I can understand the challenge
- You can also send me a photo if you think it will help explain it better to karianne@thistlewoodfarms.com
- I’ll put together a quick design plan to give you some inspiration and post a couple here on the blog every week to (hopefully) give a little inspiration to someone else who might have the same challenge.
- If you don’t want to leave it in the comments, you can always just email me at karianne@thistlewoodfarms.com
And remember.
You got a friend in me.
