A rug can instantly define a space — but choosing the right one isn’t always easy.

This is a whole post about where we started and where we are going and how sometimes without warning?
You pivot right in the middle of a design plan.
If you are like what in the world is she talking about?
We are in the middle of making over Westleigh’s (the older twin) room for her. She just graduated from Baylor and she has started (today is her very first day) her new job in communications and marketing. To save money and start budgeting (yikes), she’s living at home for the summer and we wanted to change up her room just a little bit for this new chapter in her life.
(total aside: Whitney came home for the weekend and I just sat and listened to all the giggles and laughter in the kitchen last night. Just to have the privilege of listening to that laughter filled my heart with joy bigger than the heart of Texas.)
You can see the original plan for Westleigh’s room here (with the original rug we didn’t pick)
I ordered everything you see in the plan and some things worked.
And some things didn’t.
Like the rug.
The colors didn’t work with what we had planned and we decided that we wanted to go in a different direction. More cottage. Less boho. So we returned the rug (that’s the amazing thing about ordering rugs off Amazon–the return process is so easy–they just came to our house and picked it up for FREE).
And now we have four new rug ideas, and Westleigh wanted to have you all vote (like you did for Whitney’s room).
Can I ask for your help again?
She picked out four new rugs and we want to know which one is your favorite.

Here’s my new professional in her new space (wearing my new Quince sweater of course):
Just a couple of notes to help with the overall design plan.
- I think we are going to keep the wall color
- We LOVE the new bedding so much and the feel of it is so vintage that the room color just warms it up
- We were worried that white might be too stark with the look and feel Westleigh wants
- The bed is next LEVEL (you can see the bed here.)
- If you order the bed, depending on the size of your mattress, you won’t need a box spring because it sits up so high
- We are still changing out the light fixture to a rattan fixture
- We got the rattan box at the end of the bed at a thrift store and it works perfectly for extra storage in her room
- If you are wondering what the original rug looked like (I should have photographed it in the room) you can see it here
- It’s a very pretty rug, it just didn’t work in this space
- All the rugs we are looking at are approximately 8′ x 10′

Let’s unpack the bedding a little so you can get a better idea of the colors to help with the rug choice.
Here’s more about the bedding
- these linen euro shams
- this ruffled gingham bedding
- these striped pillows
- this duvet cover insert
- this euro (26″ x 26″ pillow) insert
- this 20″ x 20″ pillow insert
- these throw pillows
I added my favorite inserts and pillows here that make the bed so cozy as well. Many of these inserts, I’ve had for years and just keep reusing them over and over again.
Those linen Euro shams are my favorite thing I’ve ordered recently. They feel like I went to a small boutique in Paris and brought them back. I did steam them after they came out of the package because well, linen.
Westleigh’s favorite is the gingham with the ruffles. It’s really high quality and the set comes with the duvet cover and two shams. There are other color options for the bedding, too.
And now?
Let’s look at the rugs in the space. Westleigh has her top two, but then she keeps changing her mind. It’s hard to choose a rug sometimes, so that’s why we are turning to you for help.
(total aside: this time I kept them in order so it’s easier to vote. LOL.)

// vintage looking sand taupe rug //
This is RUG A
If you look closely (it’s kind of hard to tell at first glance), this rug is FULL of layers of faded colors and patterns.
There’s blue and green and cream and khaki and tan.
And it looks like a rug that has been in the room forever with its beautiful, faded patina.
It comes in tons of other colors, too.
You can see this rug here.

// block print pattern rug //
This is RUG B
This rug kind of reminds me of the bee rug that I first picked out for Whitney’s room.
It’s definitely leaning into more of the cottage feel.
The pattern is a little bolder, but yet it has so much charm and feels like it introduces pattern to the space in a fresh way.
It comes in two other colors, too.
You can see this rug here.

// scalloped natural fiber rug //
This is RUG C
I love the look of this rug and have others similar to it.
It’s a natural fiber rug with a scalloped border and then two additional inset white borders in the center.
The price point was just too expensive for an 8′ x 10′ and then I found this one at an amazing price point for this type of rug.
It comes in tons of other sizes, too.
You can see this rug here.

// Rifle Paper floral rug //
This is RUG D
This is a rug with a Rifle Paper design.
It has pink flowers and green stems and it’s a faded design that looks very cottagey.
The pattern on the rug is so pretty and it comes in tons of other patterns, too.
You can see this rug here.
A. Vintage sand taupe rug
B. Block print pattern rug
C. Scalloped woven rug
D. Rifle paper floral rug

Can you see why it’s so hard to pick?
They all look so cute in the room and we went back and forth and back and forth and decided we needed some friends.
If you have a moment, please let Westleigh and I know which is your favorite in the comments.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
