Wondering how to decorate with block prints? Here’s a new table runner I just added to the dining room and tons of other block print finds.

A woman stands in a brightly lit dining room, arranging white flowers in a vase placed on a table. The table, adorned with a white tablecloth featuring an elegant blue block print pattern, exudes charm. A crystal chandelier hangs from the ceiling, and double French doors grace the background.

Dear wonderful, incredible, patient, and long-suffering people in my Pokeno group……

….I’m really sorry I was late.

Again.

(hangs head shamefully).

I intended to be on time.

I wanted to be on time.

In my heart…..I was already there…..

…..on time….choosing my card and pouring sweet tea.

I adore you.

I really, really, do and I love Pokeno.

But you see…..

…there was this block print table runner.

A dining room with a white table and eight white chairs. A chandelier hangs above the table. The background features dark blue walls with white patterned curtains flanking a large window. A white floral centerpiece sits on the table, and framed artwork adorns the walls.

I came downstairs in the cutest dress with my self-tanner self all ready to go.

And then?

I heard a package go kerplunk outside the front door.

A section of fabric featuring an intricate blue and white floral pattern. The design includes large, stylized blue flowers bordered by smaller floral patterns in a repetitive, decorative motif. The fabric appears to be lightweight and finely woven.

I opened it up and saw this.

This block print runner that I had been waiting for.

I LOVE anything block print like this runner.

You can see the blue and white table runner  here.

(total aside: I’m kind of obsessed with block print for home decor and for summer dresses, too.)

A modern dining room with dark navy walls and white trim. A white rectangular table is surrounded by white chairs on a light patterned rug. A white vase with flowers is the centerpiece. A chandelier hangs above, and the room is decorated with curtains, artwork, and fresh flowers.

I kept looking at the table and it kept looking back at me. And I knew….that I knew….that I knew…..it needed this runner at this very minute.

Not later.

Sigh.

You see when I looked at the clock there was plenty of time.  I mean….I after all….I had 30 minutes before I needed to be there and I already had my hair flat-ironed and my red lipstick on and the perfect pair of daisy earrings that said we are a summer Pokeno winner.

A woman with blonde hair in a white dress stands behind a white table holding a bouquet of flowers. The table is adorned with a blue-patterned runner and a large white vase filled with white flowers and greenery. A chandelier hangs above, and glass doors are in the background.

And so with minutes to spare, I opened up the package and put the runner on the table.

It was PERFECT.

But it was wrinkled. I looked at the clock and decided I had enough time to iron it.

And add this hydrangea bunch with branches.

(total aside: I recreated these photos later for the post. Just in case you were wondering how I had enough time for a photo shoot, too.)

A chic dining room with a white table and chairs. Two striped chairs with matching cushions flank the table ends. A crystal chandelier hangs above. Black walls with abstract-patterned curtains complement the greenery-filled vase centerpiece, framed art, and bright rug.

Can we all agree that isn’t this the best use of thirty minutes you have ever seen?

The dining room LOOKS SO MUCH CUTER in minutes.

*sigh*

I was so close. I almost made it. I just underestimated the travel time.

So thanks for the understanding smiles and pats on the back and giggles and the generally low expectations that I would arrive on time when I showed up 20 minutes late with cute earrings.

You’re the best.

And I’m pretty sure it won’t happen again.

Pretty sure.

Almost sure.

I’m changing the time to 30 minutes earlier on the calendar next month….

…..just to be certain.

How To Decorate With Block Prints

Just in case you were wondering what block prints are and where they came from.

And how to decorate with them?

I put together a little primer for us.

What is block print fabric?

Block print fabric is a type of textile that features patterns and designs created using a traditional technique known as block printing. This method involves the use of hand-carved wooden blocks that are dipped in dye and then stamped onto the fabric. I’ve seen the process done before and it’s so fascinating. A lot of block prints are made by hand overseas.

How is block print fabric made?

Skilled artisans carve intricate designs into wooden blocks. Each block represents a different part of the design or color. The blocks can be super simple or intricate. For example, the runner in my dining room has a simple design in the center. It looks like the block was stamped every couple of inches, but the design is more intricate on the end of the runner.

The dye is spread evenly on a tray or absorbed by a pad. Then the carved block is dipped into the dye or pressed onto the pad to absorb an even layer of dye. The artisan carefully aligns the block and presses it onto the fabric. I have no idea how they recreate the pattern so effortlessly (probably tons of practice). The artisan presses the block in the same pattern across the fabric.

If you see a block print with two (or three different colors) this is even more challenging. Different blocks are used for different colors if the design is multi-colored.

Yikes.

I would be lucky enough to get the first layer right.

A dining room with dark blue walls features a white rectangular table and matching white chairs. A chandelier hangs above the table, which is decorated with a white vase holding flowers. Patterned curtains frame the window, and framed artwork adorns the walls.

How to decorate with block prints

So we’ve all decided that we love block prints.

Right?

So how can you add them in your home?

I put together some ideas and examples.

A collage of various textiles featuring diverse floral patterns in blue, white, and green colors. The assortment includes pillow covers, blankets, and a tablecloth, all showcasing intricate designs and varying shades of blue and green with white backgrounds.

1. Pillows

Cushions and Pillows: This is my favorite way to use them in the home. I have block print pillows all over the house.

You can shop all these block print pillows here.

A bright room features a window adorned with white curtains decorated with blue floral patterns. To the left, there is a wicker chair with a cream cushion and a macrame wall hanging. In the corner, a woven basket sits on the wooden floor.

Curtains and Drapes: That same beautiful pattern looks so pretty on curtains.

I found this beautiful set that comes in four other colors and it’s so affordable (that’s the great thing about block print decor—it’s usually affordable).

You can see these curtains here.

A folded pink and white decorative textile lies flat with one corner flipped slightly. The fabric features intricate floral and geometric patterns, predominantly in shades of pink over a white background. The design includes bands of varying widths.

Table Linens:

I found this amazing block print tablecloth that comes in over 25 different patterns.

You can see it here.

And here are tons of other block print table linens, too.

A bed is neatly made with a white and blue patterned quilt and matching pillow shams featuring intricate designs. The bed has a white headboard and is situated next to a white nightstand in a bright, airy room with light walls and a large window. A striped rug is on the floor.

Bedding:

You can find the prettiest affordable block print bedding, too.

Typically it’s quilted on top of the block printing like this set.

You can see it here (it comes in other colors, too).

A stack of folded towels is pictured on a wooden stool. The towels feature pink floral and green striped patterns, demonstrating how to decorate with block prints. The designs are harmonious in color, creating a visually appealing combination. The background is blurred and neutral in color.

Towels

This home decor find is a little different because the towels are stamped like other block prints.

But they use block print designs and they are so pretty.

You can see these towels here.

A neatly folded set of six dark blue fabric pieces with a repeating white floral pattern. One piece is partially unfolded, revealing a stitched design on the reverse side. The fabrics appear to be quilted with a subtle white stitching pattern.

Throws:

You could also add a block print throw.

It’s a little less commitment than block print bedding.

You can see this throw here.

A white rectangular tablecloth and matching set of napkins with a blue floral design. The border has a blue wavy pattern, and the main area features two identical blue and black floral motifs. The napkins are neatly folded showing the same design.

Placemats:

Look at these placemats.

Aren’t they the sweetest? I found tons of options that included the napkins, too.

You can see these placemats here.

A bathroom with a white and blue floral patterned shower curtain. The room features a white vanity with a mirror, a towel rack with folded towels, and a glimpse of a white bathtub. Light streams in from a window, creating a clean and bright atmosphere.

Shower Curtains:

I found the shower curtain that matches my runner.

If you love blue and white like me, this is perfect.

You can see the shower curtain here.

A woman stands in a white and black dining room, smiling as she arranges flowers in a vase on a table covered with a white cloth featuring a blue pattern. A crystal chandelier hangs above. The room has glass-paned double doors and framed pictures on the walls.

I am SO ALL ABOUT a block print.

And now my table is all decorated and ready for book club tonight.

I won’t be late to that meeting.

I promise.

Because it’s at my house.
