DECORATING Trend Alert: How To Decorate With Lemons

Trend alert. Looking for simple ideas on how to decorate with lemons? Here are five ways to add lemons to your spring decor.

A woman in a blue striped blouse is holding a large white decorative platter filled with lemons. She is smiling and standing in a cozy, well-lit living room with a sofa and blue-and-white decor in the background.

In my head, I always categorize my decorating ideas by punctuation.

Sometimes the decorating idea I have is a question mark.

Like….why did I ever start this?

Or…what do I do now?

And…yikes….what was I thinking?

Question mark ideas are the worst.

I think they are an exclamation project. These ideas start off with me leading the marching band, head held high and waving my baton for the world to see. Mid-baton marching glory, my decorating starts playing a completely different song.

Sigh.

And all of a sudden my decorating is out of tune.

And the flower arrangement doesn’t turn out or my book pages wilt or I discover that I’m not as good with mantel decorating as an action verb.

Then the question mark self-doubting thinking takes over and I decide I am so over it all and end up just ordering pizza and watching the Bachelorette.

Two blue and white porcelain cups stacked with a lemon inside the top cup, set on a beige tablecloth with a blurred red container in the background.

Sometimes the decorating is simply an ellipsis or {…..}

An idea that just trails off into nothingness because it never really has an ending.

And there it remains….in no-man’s land….waiting to be finished.

Ellipsis projects.

As in….I started a coffee table display…

Or….I’ll start it tomorrow….

And….I really should finish….

*sigh*

Do you ever have projects like that?

A person wearing a blue and white striped shirt and blue pants holds a small yellow lemon in their outstretched hand. The floor has a black and white patterned carpet.

And amidst all the question marks and commas and ellipses and ampersands one type of punctuation decorating idea stands alone.

When the stars align.

When the universe rights itself on its axis.

And Willie Nelson croons out the Hallelujah Chorus accompanied by an angel choir playing banjos.

And then you know that you know that you know that you have created…..

…..an exclamation point DECORATING IDEA!!!!!

As in….I can’t believe it turned out!

And….this is amazing!

Or….it’s better than I could have ever even imagined!

And I created it using these.

LEMONS.

Smiling woman holding lemons stands in a bright living room. She's dressed in a blue and white striped blouse and light blue pants. The room features a beige sofa with patterned cushions, a glass coffee table with lemons, and a potted plant.

I know, right?

Lemons.

Wonderful, yellow, springy, fresh LEMONS.

You can get them from the grocery store or you can get faux lemons like the ones I have that last all spring and summer.

You can see lemons like these here.

Here are 5 ways I put together about how to decorate with lemons.

A decorative white platter holds a bowl filled with bright yellow lemons, placed on a patterned surface. The arrangement has an elegant and fresh appearance.

1. Add to a bowl

Okay—this is so Captain Obvious.

But it is one of the happiest ways to decorate with lemons.

You just fill a bowl and put them out on a coffee table or kitchen counter.

One quick tip—I used to use real lemons for this—but I’d put them out in the bowl and forget and the ones on the top would look so amazing and fresh. But when you peeled away the top lemons—there was always an errant lemon hiding that started to stink.

And worse.

To mold.

Yikes.

So now I just use faux lemons so I don’t have to worry about the mold.

2. Add lemons to a kitchen island

I usually decorate my kitchen island with topiaries and greenery in the spring.

But then?

When I want a little pop of color?

Just a few lemons scattered here or there can make such a difference. You can add them to a bowl on the island or add them to a pedestal or even add a vase full of lemon branches like these.

3. Decorate with mason jars

I love the freshness of mason jars with water full of cut lemons and rosemary.

It’s just an easy, simple way to decorate with lemons.

A mini exclamation point project.

If you line up several mason jars full of lemons and rosemary like this—they make a great centerpiece.

You can also add fresh greenery branches from the yard, too.

4. Use lemons to create a centerpiece

Here’s another centerpiece idea.

I added lemons to a pedestal in the center of the table.

Then, I layered in palm branches and fresh flowers (such a fun idea for an Easter brunch).

You could also add a plate of lemon slices to the table, too.

A decorative shelf showcases how to decorate with lemons, potted greenery, and a wooden sign. It features a small calendar set to January 25, alongside a rabbit figurine and an ornate urn holding a twig basket filled with pastel eggs.

5. Use lemons to decorate a hutch

Last year, after I decorated the hutch, someone suggested lemons.

What a brilliant idea.

I just scattered lemons here and there amongst the milk glass and greenery.

The yellow of the lemons really makes the hutch pop.

A woman in a blue shirt and pants smiles while arranging lemons on a glass coffee table in a bright, cozy living room. The room features a beige sofa with patterned pillows, a blue-and-white rug, and potted plants by the window.

Lemons.

Wonderful lemons.

The perfect way to decorate for spring.

And when I filled this bowl with lemons and stood back to look at the room?

My heart smiled.

And the birds chirped and the bells rang out and the marching band started playing my song.

And I know that somewhere….

….Willie Nelson was singing
