Holidays 5 Life Tips to Make Life Easier

A white arched shelf filled with blue and white porcelain dishes and vases, accented by small orange pumpkins. To the left, there's a vibrant autumnal plant with red and orange leaves. A cushioned bench with pillows is positioned to the right.

Have you ever noticed that a little tip that makes life so much easier shows up at the most random of times?

Like when you’re fall decorating.

The other day I was going through a few bins from the attic to try and get organized for the holidays and I pulled out a wrinkled table runner that I had forgotten I was in love with.

I wanted to hug it.

I wanted to tell it welcome back from the attic.to put on the table and cover it with pumpkins.

I wanted to put it on the table and tell it pumpkin pie would be there shortly.

But when I put the runner on the table —all those wrinkles scolded me in silent accusation.

And right in the middle of that dressing down from my table linen….

….a little life tip showed up.

I took the table runner and put in in the dryer with a semi-wet dishtowel and ten minutes later THE WRINKLES WERE GONE.

CAN YOU EVEN?

(total aside:  you probably already knew that because you are brilliant, but just pretend and act excited with me)

I never met a little tip I didn’t like, so today to celebrate all that is right and good in this world…

….I’m sharing five of my favorite tips to make life easier.

And then?

Maybe you could share one tip and we’ll have tons of tips to get ready for the holidays.

1. Control Z

I’ve mentioned this tip before, but it is so worth another mention.

Have you ever been typing something and you messed up?

Your fingers slipped or you reached for coffee and somehow two lines of your text went away.

Or you typed a sentence and then you erased it and then you wanted it back.

Meet the do-over button.

Control Z.

All you have to do to reset what you were doing on your keyboard is to press Control Z and what you reset what you were just doing.  You restore the keystrokes that were just there.  You go back to whatever you were typing 10 seconds before.

I know, right?

It should be called the life saver button.

2. Coupon tip

I use this one all the time (I just did this a couple of days ago).

I go to an online site and find something I want to buy and put it into my cart.  I fill out all the information (including my e-mail) and head to the checkout page like I’m going to check out.

But I don’t.

I wait.

And after a day something amazing happens.

A COUPON SHOWS UP IN MY INBOX.

It’s usually between 10% to 20% off.  Once the coupon shows up,  I take the coupon and complete my checkout.

It’s like they are almost paying you to shop.

3.  Zoom confetti

If you sit on Zoom meetings here’s a fun tip.

(total aside:  I don’t know about you, but there’s never a short supply of Zoom meetings in my life.)

If you hold up two fingers or add a thumbs up guess what happens?

Balloons and streamers pop out everywhere on the screen.

And if you make your hands into a heart? Hearts come out everywhere.

It’s like a mini-party on Zoom.

4.  Control + shift + T

Have you clicked out of a tab on your browser?

And then?

You want to get it back.

Now you can.

All you have to do is push control + shift + T and the last tab you closed hops right back onto your screen.

It’s kind of like calling your best friend right back after you got off the phone because you remembered one more thing you had to tell them.

5.  Fixing scratches

I buy a lot of furniture at yard sales.

Most of them come with scratches.

I discovered the easiest fix for a little scratch on a yard-sale piece of furniture.

A walnut.

All I do is rub the walnut over the scratch and the oil from the walnut takes the scratch out.

Never underestimate the power of a legume.

So what did you think?

Did you know about those tips?

Do you use them?

Now it’s your turn.

I’d love for you to share something that makes your life easier.

Let’s discuss in the comments.

PS Today would have been my Dad’s birthday. I just wanted to send a little hug towards heaven and tell him I miss him.

Every. Single. Day.

PPS I was going to wait and share this on Saturday, but I’m so worried it’s going to sell out like last year!

It’s under $13 with the My Texas House line at Walmart.

You can shop it here.
