Remember the GIANT rug question of 2025?
Remember this brand-new professional who needed help with her rug choice in her room?
We are in the middle of making over Westleigh’s (the older twin) room for her.
She just graduated from Baylor and she has started her new job in communications and marketing. To save money and start budgeting (yikes), she’s living at home for the summer and we wanted to change up her room just a little bit for this new chapter in her life.
She picked out four different rugs and we truly loved them all and couldn’t decide which one to pick.
So, of course?
We turned to you.
We thought there might be some rug experts in the audience and we were RIGHT.
And now?
Almost 300 votes later?
We have a WINNER.
Here are a couple of quick notes that I gave everyone about the design plan (in case this is the first time you are seeing the rug question):
- I think we are going to keep the wall color
- We LOVE the new bedding so much and the feel of it is so vintage that the room color just warms it up
- We were worried that white might be too stark with the look and feel Westleigh wants
- The bed is next LEVEL (you can see the bed here.)
- If you order the bed, depending on the size of your mattress, you won’t need a box spring because it sits up so high
- We are still changing out the light fixture to a rattan fixture
- We got the rattan box at the end of the bed at a thrift store and it works perfectly for extra storage in her room
- If you are wondering what the original rug looked like (I should have photographed it in the room) you can see it here
- It’s a very pretty rug, it just didn’t work in this space
- All the rugs we are looking at are approximately 8′ x 10′
And here are all the rugs one more time:

// vintage looking sand taupe rug //

// block print pattern rug //

// scalloped natural fiber rug //

// Rifle Paper floral rug //

A. Vintage sand taupe rug
B. Block print pattern rug
C. Scalloped woven rug
D. Rifle paper floral rug
Here’s how the voting broke down:
RUG A: 92 votes
RUG B: 168 votes
RUG C: 11 votes (poor rug C)
RUG D: 73
AND THE WINNER IS:

// block print pattern rug //
RUG B.
The rug is all ordered and should be here in a couple of weeks. I wanted to take pictures for the post, but it’s taking a while to get here (I know it will be worth the wait). So I created this mock-up of the rug in the space.
You know what’s funny? Westleigh’s original choice was Rug C.
She was kind of all about the neutral, but when I showed her the pictures and the way the rugs looked in the space and (of course) all of your input, she fell in love with RUG B.
Your input was INVALUABLE. Thank you SO MUCH for taking a minute to celebrate with us.
And now?
Just in case you were rug shopping?
I thought it might be fun to show you a few other neutral rugs we have around the house or that I’ve recommended to design clients.

We actually looked at this rug for Westleigh’s room, too.
This rug is so pretty because it has layers.
It’s really thick and the colors go so well in any neutral space. I actually have three of them in different places in the home and it has held up really well.
This rug is actually a 5’x 7′ but comes in TONS of different sizes and you can see a super similar version here.

// gray and white rug //
distressed gray area rug
This was the first rug I bought for our family room. It’s a version of the blue and white rug in the living room except in ivory and silver. It’s so pretty with its distressed edges and pattern variations.
It’s a 12′ x 15′ but it also comes in tons of different sizes and colors.
You can see it here.

// seagrass rug //
seagrass rug
And here’s one of my all-time favorites I used in the family room, too.
I had these seagrass rugs all over the farmhouse in Kentucky.
They are amazingly durable (although a little rough on bare feet sometimes).
You can see it in tons of different sizes here.

// neutral medallion rug //
patterned neutral rug
This rug is everything.
I cannot even tell you how brilliant it is in person. When I shared the before and after Color Of the Year post, so many of you asked about this rug.
The woven texture is absolutely amazing.
You can see it here.
// scalloped woven runner //
neutral scalloped woven runner
I had to include a scalloped runner from the kitchen in the round-up.
And this rug is SUPER AFFORDABLE at just a little over about $80 for a 96″ x 30″
Last time I shared it, the rug sold out TWO TIMES. Every time they’d get it back in stock, it would sell out again.
It’s in stock right now and it’s so cute in any room that needs a little personality
You can see it here.

In honor of summer I wanted to share this rug that’s absolute perfection. This is the runner’s modern cousin.
I’ve been looking at this for a while and trying to figure out where to use it.
The pattern and texture are so fun and long-wearing, too.
You can see it here.

On behalf of Westleigh and myself—thank you SO MUCH for helping us out.
Just in case no one else has mentioned it yet? YOU ARE NEXT LEVEL.
The only thing better than decorating your daughter’s bedroom and watching her navigate her first job successfully?
Is decorating with friends.
