Looking for a fun wreath idea for Easter? Make this DIY buffalo check wreath in under an hour. Here’s the step-by-step.

Have you ever noticed that inspiration strikes in the weirdest of places? Like the middle of aisle 7 in Hobby Lobby with a 40% off sign staring me in the face.

It all started when I saw these eggs.

Buffalo check and burlap and speckled eggs all packaged up waiting for an idea and one popped into my head at precisely that moment.

A wreath.

With eggs and carrots and a buffalo check bow.

Spoiler alert. It turned out even cuter than I ever could have imagined.

Here’s how to make a DIY buffalo check Easter wreath.

Out of my brain right onto my dutch door in the laundry room.

(total aside: this door has a special place in my heart. I walked through this door carrying two tiny twins when they arrived home from the hospital.)

It’s one of my favorite doors on the planet and it needed a wreath as special as it is.

If you are looking for a DIY for an Easter wreath that is SO MUCH easier to make than it looks? You have come to the right place.

(I just got mine at Hobby Lobby, but I couldn’t find it online, so I found this one that’s super similar with the greenery already on it. If you wanted to make it asymmetrical like mine, you could take the greenery off on one side.)

2 sets of these eggs with buffalo check, burlap and speckled eggs

22 gauge green florist wire

(if you get the wreath with greenery you don’t need additional)

stuffed carrots (they come in a pack of four)

Step 1: Wire greenery

I started with a basic wreath form that I found at Hobby Lobby (I just got it there the other day).

I cut off pieces of greenery from a larger bunch (as shown) and used 22 gauge green florist wire to wire them directly onto the wreath form.

Then I cut the longer wire into thirds and wrapped it around the greenery onto the wreath.

If the wire shows at this stage, don’t worry. We are going to cover it up with eggs.

If you don’t have a Hobby Lobby or your store is out, I found this one that’s super similar with the greenery already on it. If you wanted to make it asymmetrical like mine, you could take the greenery off on one side and skip this step of wiring in the greenery.

Step 2: Add florist wire to the egg

The eggs are styrofoam. This 22 gauge green florist wire is strong enough to simply poke into the egg as shown.

Repeat this step with all the eggs in both packages.

It looks like a lot of eggs, but they go fast when you are wiring them onto the wreath.

Step 3: start wiring the eggs onto the wreath

Take the eggs and wire them to the branches.

Here’s what I learned from all my egg wiring.

It works so much better if you wire the end of the wire onto the branch and leave extra wire on the egg (as shown in this picture). Then you can twist or turn the eggs easily to layer them onto the wreath.

Keep adding eggs until you have filled up one side of the wreath.

Step 4: Make a bow

Make a bow from the buffalo-checked ribbon.

Wire it onto the wreath in the bottom left corner.

Step 5: Add the carrots

You can leave your wreath carrotless if you prefer.

Or you can add these stuffed carrots (they come in a pack of four) to the center of the bow.

They come with jute twine at the top that I used to tie them in place.

That’s it.

The wreath is finished and ready to hang.

I’m so happy I listened to my heart in aisle 7.

The entire wreath took me 37 minutes to make from start to finish.

Under an hour and my door is ready for spring.
