When the twins were born, this is the room that they came home to.
We had a house (you can see the house before Thistlewood here) that we lived in that was a couple of blocks away, but we were in the middle of renovations and the house was full of dust and the twins were preemies who were born at 29 weeks and when they finally came home from the hospital after a month they both weighed right around 4 pounds.
Way too little to be around dust.
So we temporarily moved into my parent’s home.
Right into this bedroom.
There was a full-sized bed pushed all the way to the left and the crib was on the wall to the right. They shared a crib because they were so tiny.
I was so nervous and scared and I paced this floor more times than I can count with those tiny little babies in my arms.
This room has come full circle after we bought the house back and now Whitney lives here (with Westleigh just across the way).
And now?
Thanks to all of you and the big rug selection of 2025?
The room looks like this.

// blue and white rug //
Our RUG.
The one that got the most votes (including the most important vote—Whitney).
When I first unrolled it, I had one thought.
WE CHOSE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RUG.
Seriously.

Look at the pattern.
Here’s a close-up of what the details of the pattern look like.
The background color is slightly whiter and less cream than it looks like in these photos. The pattern has flowers and swirls and vines and it looks so elegant and I only paid just a little over $100 for it. And whoever suggested turning it horizontally I wish I could give you a standing ovation.
It made all the difference in the space.
You can see the rug here.
BEST EVER.

Here’s a pulled back photo of the room so you can see the rug in the space.
It is the happiest room ever.
These pictures don’t even show the joy, so I filmed a video that you can see over on Instagram here.

Instead of the bench at the end of the bed?
I added these baskets.
I got them years ago (they are the Safavieh brand) and they have casters that roll everywhere. I tried to source them for us, but I couldn’t find any that were this sturdy and this size.
They are oversized and are perfect for holding all the extra blankets and pillows at the end of the bed.

If they were handing out awards for the happiest bedding on this planet—this would be the winner.
I found this pillow at Hobby Lobby, but if you don’t have a Hobby Lobby near you—look what I found—almos the exact pillow covers. They are so bright and happy and bring in a pop of color.
I love, love, LOVE this gingham bedding. I ordered it for the Cape bedroom, too, and it has a zipper and little ties on the ends of the duvet cover that you can tie the duvet onto. It comes with a set of gingham shams, too.
You can see the gingham bedding here.

I got this artwork at Hobby Lobby, too.
These are actually the same piece of art.
Here’s a simple artwork hack—I took the piece of art and painted it with new colors and new designs to make it into two different pieces.
I’ve actually flipped art upside down and painted it, too, to make it look different.

// Jane Austen playing cards //
And look at this.
The cutest playing cards EVER.
I got them for my birthday and each of the cards has its own Jane Austen character—from Mr. Darcy to Emma they are all there.
You can see the Jane Austen playing cards here.
This room has been here for so many of the events in our lives.
And now it’s changed up and decorated up and ready for the next chapter.
You know.
The one where that tiny little preemie?
Graduates from college and comes home for the summer.
